day 8
the next day we set of towards interlaken. but first we went to this place called the lion monument.

it is to ji4 nian4 the ultra loyal swiss guards who died fighting for the french monarchy. look at the lion, it has a mournful look on its face. oh well.
and then we went to bern, the capital of switzerland! we went to a garden somewhere on a hill and had a superb view of the city. the flowers in the garden were in full bloom but there were a lot of bees around, inevitably.

on the way to the centre.
there's a cuckoo clock somewhere in the city centre and mum read about it in travel books. she said they said it was damn nice and interesting. so after lunch we gathered under the clock, hoping to see something really fantastic and magnificent. the tour guide also said the 'show' was a must watch and that it was really nice and stuff. so we waited below the clock along with many other curious travel groups, craning our necks to watch the 'performance'.

see that thingy beside the red clock? it's a small dwarf holding a trumpet. surrounding him were a few goblins. between them and the red clock was a golden chicken.
and finally the clock struck 2. a bell rang, and then the goblins began revolving around the trumpet dwarf. the guy then blew his trumpet. it all lasted a few seconds. and it was easy to miss it. then at the top of the tower some mechanic guy hit the bell at the top. i forgot in which order all these happened. then there was silence. 'chey!!' i said. 'i thought what show.' the crowd dispersed, all disappointed.
and then suddenly there was another sound from the clock and dad exclaimed, 'the chicken flapped its wings!' i quickly looked in that direction but i missed the whole thing. it only flapped once! and it was so long after the 'main' show. we were all laughing; we waited so long just to see some moving goblins and a flapping chicken.
waited for the 3 o'clock show but i still didnt catch the flapping chicken. oh well.
then, we went to interlaken! the driver didnt know where our hotel was, as he had never been there before. played football with one of our travelmates while waiting for the driver and the tour guide to find the hotel. never really played, just kicked it around.
then finally we found the hotel. it's one of the best in my opinion. it's a classic swiss hotel with old fashioned lifts. you had to open the door by yourself. actually our previous hotel also had this lift. the view from our hotel was superb! :D

that evening we had a typical swiss fondue dinner. the boss was damn funny lah! we had a go in blowing the famous matterhorn.
after dinner we had a walk around the area and almost got lost. i couldnt wait to get back to the hotel and watch football, but then the tv was so lousy i gave up in the end.
