day 10
after breakfast, my parents went upstairs to pack up while i loitered downstairs. then i saw a piece of tissue and a table mat with a beautiful drawing of the mountains in the area. then i began to draw them on the piece of tissue. i completed the thing in dijon, france. dad likes it a lot for some reason. back in singapore he photocopied 2 copies and i coloured one of them.

the next destination was zermatt, and then to some place called leukerbad for the night. on the way, we went to this bukit-timah-ish place with a spectacular waterfall. yeah well it's not the rhine falls but it's nice anyway.

and there was this super posh hotel right in front of the waterfall, looking over the lake and the mountains! we had coffee at their café!

and then it was the long and gruelling journey on the highway. wonder how the driver could endure hours and hours of nonstop driving. argh this is where i cant remember much. oh ya we stopped by a marché and dad ate horse meat (!) and he claimed it's mutton (because if not mum'll kill him). and then we went to zermatt, the town without pollution.

took a train up and spent the afternoon there. we wanted to see the mighty matterhorn (the mountain seen on toblerone boxes) but it's always covered with clouds.

therefore i decided to take a picture from a postcard.

looks really fake.

saw this watch which cost 135000 CHF!!!

zermatt wasnt that interesting, only that the air was really fresh (what a change from the heavily polluted singaporean air!). i must say that the toilets are squeaky clean. and the swiss are really environmental friendly. the lights are always switched off and when u walk past the sensors on the walls, the lights switch on automatically one by one. it's spooky, really. but it's good for the environment. hmm singapore should really learn from them.

and then it was time to go to leukerbad. it was on a highland, and the road up there was genting-like. 10km to go (so said the gps) and there were many twists and bends. we had a nice dinner at a classic swiss restaurant. but i had a crazy time there. i do not want to elaborate further. haha!

anyway, we didnt know where our hotel was because neither the tour guide nor the driver had been here before. it was damn dark and drizzling and we had to find a hotel called 'greeting' or something like that. and then we found it.

it's a cosy little hotel owned by the grichting family. there were 2 buildings, on each side of the road, and there was an underground passage linking both buildings together! our room was huge compared to the other ones we had. there was even a kitchen and balcony! i switched on the tv and saw portugal vs belgium, and then i began watching.

yeah, that's all for today. man, i cant wait to blog about france! we're already so close!
