had croissant, as usual, for breakfast. come to think of it, i cant remember any breakfast without croissants. dad hollowed out a big loaf of bread and i used the crust to make a miniature colosseum... 2 of our travelmates showed off their fly-catching skills...

we then set off to JUNGFRAUJOCH (pronunced [yong-frao-yok], fyi), TOP OF EUROPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's about 11000 feet high... almost 4km above sea level. it was mum's birthday! :D we sang the happy birthday song on the bus~!
then we reached the train station.

name of the train station.
the train ride to the summit was about 1h long, and the view was... i really cannot describe.

the sight of the snow capped mountains looming in the distance between the valleys really takes your breath away. i couldnt stop looking at them. and there were numerous waterfalls at the side of the so called cliffs. all these seemed to wash away all my stress, and for a moment i felt i had absolutely nothing to worry about. as the train rumbled on, the crisp cool air blew against us, refreshing, rejuvenating our tired souls, worn out from the years of slaving in front of our work tables. what a change from our usual hectic lifestyle! man, the experience itself already justifies the ticket price.
saw some edelweiss, the swiss national flower.
as we went higher and higher, we saw more and more and bigger glaciers. they looked so small from so far out but in fact they were huge...

...and so was the dog.
we stopped at a train station and changed to a much more powerful train which would take us to the summit. then, we entered a tunnel which went deep inside the mountain itself. we alighted a place (not the summit yet) called eismeer for some sightseeing. it was damn cold lah! i was close to freezing.

and then, was the trip to the summit itself. went to this place where there were some goal posts and artificial turfs. and a euro 2008 poster (it'll be held in switzerland and austria). according to peter, a multi talented and a walking encyclopedia travelmate, they had a football (more precisely, fusball) match here in the mighty JUNGFRAU a few days ago. or the previous day.

too bad i didnt get the chance to play.
went to this place called the ice palace and it really lived up to its name. i almost freezed to death there. no kidding. but the ice sculptures were damn nice. but then i was so cold i wanted to get out of there as soon as possible.
at last we were out in the open, where it was much less colder because of the sun. yay!!!!!!! it rocks!!!!!!!!! we played snowball fight and dad's camera was kena-ed by snowballs! saw a damn cute poodle up there! :D

that's me!
then, we went to a restaurant overlooking the magnificent mountains. mum's so lucky, spending her birthday at the top of europe!
lunch was a delicious spaghetti with pure grape juice without alcohol (according to the label). i drank don't know how many glasses of it.
and then, we went to the sphinx observatory, the highest point. i went crazy snapping the photos of the mountains. dad claimed he saw some idiotic ppl trekking on the snow. how dangerous! (by the way, a few weeks after our trip, there was a avalanche over there)
these pictures are some of my favourites... (i know i have a lot of favourite photos)

jungfraujoch :)
finally it was time to go down. bidding farewell to the highest point in europe, we boarded the next train to interlaken.
we had the rest of the day to ourselves. had coffee in a typical roadside coffee shop, complete with music. went around the area and noticed this garage. there are a lot of this kind of names around in switzerland :) there's even a swiss army knife brand with the same name...
