rhapsody on a theme of paganini...

... is a damn nice song, but it's driving me crazy with all its complicated notes! it starts relatively easy, but as soon as you get to variation #13 (give or take a variation) and beyond it's total hell. especially variation #15 and the last variation.

at first i didn't know which was harder - grieg's piano concerto or this song - but now i don't have a doubt. yes, it makes liszt's 'la campanella' look like a nursery rhyme for toddlers.

at least 'la campanella' doesn't last 25 minutes...

and what's more the version i have now is for 2 pianos (why can't rachmaninoff write a 1 piano version) and i'm trying my very best to arrange it for solo piano. almost halfway there - i'm at variation #15 now. (there're 24 variations but if you count according to pages i'm 37/88 done)

but hey, it's all worth it because the song's every bit as nice as it is difficult to play. i know my vocab sucks because i can't think of any other word other than 'nice'.

on another note, i actually planned to change my blogskin because many people can't view the animation thing. but when i opened a photoshop file i found myself staring at the white canvas, my mind totally blank. reason: i can't think of any design that will beat my current blogskin's. so in the end i tweaked the animation a bit and re-uploaded it.

to hell to those who can't see the animation......
