blogging for the sake of it
haven't been updating this blog for ages. 12 days to be exact. actually i don't really care if my blog is dead or not. but what the heck.
well nothing major happened, except that my birthday was on monday! received 4 bags of chips and some chocolates and snacks, including a pen which looks like a miniature baguette. (i thought it was bread stick at first) but the biggest present was a rachmaninoff songbook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it was totally unexpected!!!! thank you yuheng!!!!!!!!!!
life is boring. it would be meaningless if there weren't things to look forward to. so it's a good thing that in may there'll be 2 major events happening and i can't wait for them to come. one is labour day, which is a holiday, and there'll be a DIRTY JOBS MARATHON starting from 0900h!!!!!!! whoohoo. it will be awesome!! i love mike rowe!!!
next, on the 15th may, which is after our dreaded napfa test (good timing then), it's the RACHMANINOFF CONCERT!!!! admittedly the concert doesn't only feature his songs. berezovsky (the russian pianist who'll be performing) will be playing debussy's images too. but frankly i only care about rach's piano concerto #3 because it is one of the most awesome piano concertos ever (other concertos include gershwin's, grieg's, and of course rach's own PC #1, #2, and #4)
speaking of PC 3, i have memorised the ossia cadenza!!! although it's only the crazy chords part. but it's an achievement!!! but i can also play the rest of the ossia cadenza! haha i feel so ego.
and then on 6th june, we (brwen stixizel) will take part in DIVA LA FUTBOL!!! again! i remember last year's competition like it was yesterday. we got into the champions cup and were the top 16 out of 48! not an easy feat cos we were the youngest! i don't know if we will be this year. but as usual i'll be a sub.
moving on to other things, yesterday's track and field finals was part cheering session part planespotting session!!! in all i counted 11 airliners flying across the sky, identifiable by their contrails. light aircraft hardly made contrails. one of the airliners flew directly above us and i could see that it had 4 engines! it wasn't a 346 nor a 345 because it was rather fat and 345s don't go south from changi as far as i know. (i may be wrong though) so i concluded that it was either a 747 or an 380.
when i saw the planes how i wished i had an 800mm lens and a teleconverter. so many a.net photography opporturnites wasted just like that!
there were other light aircraft flying in circles above us and the occasional helicopter. but i didn't really care about them, i was more interested in spotting the airliners.
i am very happy that i'm going to miss CCA next tuesday!! because we'll have learning journey at toa payoh. admittedly i don't have high hopes for it but seriously, if you're in my cca you'll find that anything is favourable to learning excel and having your computer controlled by a fussy cow.
i used to fool myself into believing that cca wasn't that bad. there had to be worse CCAs! but i increasingly got disillusioned. every cca session became 2 wasted hours of my life. i wasted 4 hours every week to sit in the computer lab doing nothing. i just can't stress how useless it is. i feel especially sorry for the deluded sec 1s. i bet infocomm lured them into this shithole with promises that they'd learn lots of stuff. bullshit. competitions are scarce except for those 'regular' ones that we take part in every year. and a fat lot of good they'll do to our CCA record. most of the teachers know nothing about IT. we have no trainers to teach us stuff that we promised to teach them (excel doesn't count) and we have to do everything ourselves. and when we have nothing to do they let us watch some crappy movie and forbid us to do homework.
but when you come to think of it, there isn't much choice. no performing arts cca requires my piano playing services, and i certainly can't play hockey or netball or build and dismantle tents.
i swear never to join infocomm in jc. and in case i am not able to join syfc, i will join piano ensemble. and here's the problem: only NJ, VJ and RJ have that cca. and my L1R5 will never be good enough to get me admitted into those jcs.
oh well.
